In our continuing series of examining Google Search Trends to gain insights into the top keywords queried in the USA, we present our findings for July 2024.
Since 2019, our data collection method has been as follows: Every day, we collect the top three keyword phrases regarding search volume as reported by Google Trends – Trending Now (US Only). Each term has an estimated query volume attached to it, which we also record—the reported totals peak at 10,000,000+ with a lower limit of 100,000+. After the conclusion of the month, we looked at the phrases we collected along with their volumes to understand what drove queries for the month. In late July 2024, Google updated its interface, and this collection method is no longer valid. The following report presents data pulled using a hybrid method.
Google Changed How It Presents Its Daily Trends
Last month, the biggest news about trending keywords was how Google presented the daily trends. The team gathered the top 3 most queried terms by day in the previous display. The Trending Now interface claims that “trend tracking is now more powerful.” Using the new UI, you can select your country, period (Past 4 hours, past 24 hours, past 48 hours, and past seven days), and whether you want to see only active trends. The data can be sorted by keyword (title), search volume, recency, and relevance (phrases that are significant and recent trends).
This data display has changed the way we collect the data. We capture keywords on the day they start trending and will use those terms in future reports. Also, the new interface displays all keywords in lowercase, which differs from the former reporting module. This post showcases a hybrid approach to presenting the top trending keywords of the month. Next month, it will be a whole new procedure. Let’s begin!
