Epic digital meets an epic theme park

Universal is opening their latest theme park—Epic Universe—in 2025 at Universal Orlando Resort. It has five astonishing worlds—Celestial Park; The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic; Super Nintendo World; How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk; and Dark Universe. They asked us to design and launch their website announcing the new opening.

Challenge

Hype extraordinary adventures

With some of Epic Universe’s hotels and worlds opening at different times, we needed to allow for staggered launch sequences while building excitement for press, media and future guests. The site grows as new information, photos, press releases and launch dates are added as property progress is made and opening dates become available.

solution

Feed the imagination

We built on Universal Orlando’s existing news and media site with unique sliders and menu items for each of the five incredibly themed worlds. The branded media destination allows partner branded content (e.g., Nintendo, How to Train Your Dragon) to coexist within the site. As the site grows with property and park launches, visitors can get a feel for the park experience by going through portals to come out into a world they’ve never dreamed of.

TECHNOLOGY

Experience the thrill

Having Epic Universe content within the larger media website allows Universal staff to easily edit and control the content (alongside the existing Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood content). The platform utilizes WordPress with a user-friendly way to upload media assets (e.g., photos, videos, press releases). We worked with Universal’s brand and user-experience teams to ensure the new site works within their corporate standards and for their partners.
