In our continuing series of examining Google Search Trends to gain insights into the top keywords queried in the USA, we present our findings for November 2023.

Every day, we capture the top three keyword phrases in terms of search volume as reported by Google Trends (US Only). Each term has an estimated query volume attached to it, which we also record. The number scale tops out at 10,000,000+ with a lower limit of 200,000+ (sometimes 100,000+). After the conclusion of the month, we look at the phrases we collected along with their volumes to get an understanding of what drove queries for the month.

Highlights from November 2023

November is always a big month for holidays so It’s no surprise that phrases related to that topic were a big theme from the data we collected from last month. We saw movie trailers make our list along with the Country Music Awards and a new single from a band that broke up in 1970. It was also a tale of two Sams with an Elon added in for good measure as he had two mentions in our list. A considerable list of queries from the world of US politics took up space in last month’s data collection. From the world of sports, we saw queries related to F1 racing, College Football, the NBA, the NFL, and two professional wrestling events. Lastly, people searched a lot about their Spotify Wrapped and learned about their streaming habits and that was a nice way to end the month. Let’s get into it.

Observance, Parade, and Deals

The keyword getting the most queries in the month of November 2023 was Veterans Day.

  • Veterans Day 2023 – 11/9/2023 – 500,000+ queries

Of course, the big holiday in the United States in November is Thanksgiving. Although there were no overt references to the holiday in our data capture, here’s the holiday unfolded in Google Search this year:

  • Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – 11/21/2023 – 200,000+ queries
  • Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – 11/22/2023 – 1,000,000+ queries
  • Dolly Parton – 11/23/2023 – 2,000,000+ queries

People seemed very interested in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, searching across two days. Dolly Parton put on a great halftime show performance and it appears people queried to learn how she is still doing what she is doing at her age.
After Thanksgiving, Google searchers turned towards the topic of shopping. The next two big holidays, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, had people searching for the deals they could get as a part of their holiday shopping:

  • Black Friday deals – 11/23/2023 – 1,000,000+ queries
  • Cyber Monday Deals – 11/26/2023 – 1,000,000+ queries

In years past, we’ve seen retailer names make the list. In 2023, it seems that the search interest is focused on the deal and not the brands.

Daylight Saving Time Ends

Some day, we won’t have to adjust our clocks one hour one way or the other. Until that day, we are stuck trying to figure out when the time shifts.

  • Daylight savings – 11/4/2023 – 500,000+ queries

Yes, we were back to Standard Time in November.  Hope you enjoyed an extra hour of sleep!
