Snapchat, Instagram Stories, and the Internet of Forgetting


It has always been common for software developers to improve their work by co-opting their competitors’ ideas. Many functions of the iPhone, for instance, are the result of Apple’s artful borrowing. But Instagram’s introduction of Stories is more than a shameless grab for one of Snapchat’s core features. It’s a response to a demand: on an Internet that always remembers, we are fighting for places we can go to forget.

Forget me, forget me not.
