Ads That Empower Women Don't Just Break Stereotypes—They’re Also Effective

Like in films of past, women in commercials were portrayed as mothers or models, wives or waitresses, with few depictions of the diverse lives they had outside of their relationships to men or children. Campaigns #LikeaGirl and #BetterForIt are starting to celebrate women not for how they look but for what they can accomplish. Part of these campigns effectiveness is the ability of brands to harness storytelling that breaks free of a 30 second spot.
