Jess and Jobs: a 21st Century Love Story
By : Jessica Margolis-Pineo, Account Executive, Integrated Public Relations
Steve Jobs died last week and it made me sad. It’s confusing because I don’t know the man, but his death tugged at my heartstrings in a way that was unique, and I believe it may be because of how his creations have shaped my life. His first computer came out the year that I was born and it is possible that this is what initially connected us, but from that point on Steve Jobs and I have had what can be best described as a lifelong love affair.

In Defense of the Cookie

They are delicious, come in different flavors, can be crunchy or doughy, and go well with nearly any occasion. They also help with targeting, allow advertisers to display relevant ads, and provide insight into user browsing histories on the web. Fortunately, or unfortunately, this post talks about the latter of the two.

Gettin’ My Missoni On
By : Adriann Fonstein, Director, Brand Strategy
Tuesday morning at 5:30am, I ‘got my Missoni on’ at Target.com. I logged on in my bathroom, hair still wet, teeth not yet brushed. I nervously and excitedly clicked away and chose a dress, swimsuit, and four scarves.
I was one of the lucky hundreds of thousands of self-proclaimed fashionistas to snag some of the Italian designer’s mass-market goodies before the site crashed later that morning. “We are suddenly extremely popular,” was the unfortunate message shoppers were met with as they were made aware of the site’s unexpectedly high traffic.

Don’t Judge an Industry by Its Cover
By : Matt Kreutz, Planner, Media Services
Currently, it is the most trusted media platform available. 58% of its users find the ads particularly enjoyable when related to content, and 57% of people who receive it digitally read the new issue the day they receive it. This doesn’t sound like a media outlet that’s dying, so why is everyone dressed in black?
Anyone who tells you that the magazine industry is going down the tubes needs to put down their iPad (27% of people engage in other non-related activities while online), pause the audio on their Pandora station (26% of people engage in other non-related activities while listening to the radio), turn their TV off (three quarters of American consumers are multi-tasking while watching television) and read a book! Or better, read a magazine.

Simpler Ways of Connecting Online May Leave You Vulnerable to Hackers
By : Emily Holden, Intern, Integrated Public Relation
It’s hard to imagine the digital world pre-Facebook and Google, but as I remember it that time was filled with usernames and passwords. When I was in high school I remember having a piece of notebook paper that listed all of my secret codes; it told me what I needed to log into my Netscape email and my Disney account, among a list of other websites. Times have changed though. Now when visiting new websites, more often than not, you can simply sign in with your Google or Facebook username and password.

I’m Expecting… Another Discussion.
By : Jessica Margolis-Pineo, Account Executive, Integrated Public Relations
Facebook quietly launched a new tool this week that is sparking controversy around the globe. Now in addition to posting favorite bands and vacation photos, Facebook users are also able to announce to their followers if they are expecting a baby. While this seems like a natural progression to the “I’m Engaged” announcement, the “I’m Expecting” function is fueling a lot of discussions. One of the most interesting conversations that arose with the new Facebook option is the concept of giving children an overwhelming online presence before birth. The “Expected: Child” section on the future parent’s website allows for a photo, presumably for a sonogram picture, and also a name, meaning the unborn child is primed to have their own mini-Facebook page while still in the womb.
